Gerald Leduc, a 25-year veteran, died after running into difficulty while diving in Stafford Pond for a missing man. When emergency officials received calls from people on shore who heard a woman screaming for help. Rescue crews raced to the pond but were unable to locate the missing man. Leduc, who lives near the pond, was off-duty called his fire chief and volunteered to join the search. He grabbed his diving gear, loaded it on his PWC and went to help. The Tiverton Firefighter suffered a heart attack and died while attempting the water rescue.
