David Sheffield
On May 20, 2009, North Mississippi volunteer firefighter David Sheffield responded to a drowning call to help look for a A 15-year-old Jr. High School student who drowned while swimming with friends in the Buttahatchie River. This was an ongoing search in tough conditions. The river was high and the current was strong from recent storms. David was searching for the young boy when he suddenly came to the surface and managed to tell surface crews that he was having trouble breathing. David was immediately pulled from the water and medical care started. He was transported to the hospital where he died of a presumed heart attach.
